Introduction

Welcome to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program at St. Michael Church, a vibrant community of believers brought to you by Behind the Veil Christian Ministries. We are excited to journey with you as you explore the Catholic faith and take steps towards becoming a fully initiated member of the Church.

What is RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process through which individuals who are interested in the Catholic faith can learn more about its teachings and traditions. Whether you are completely new to the Catholic Church, have been baptized in another Christian tradition, or are a Catholic seeking to complete your sacraments, RCIA is designed to meet your needs.

Our Community - St. Michael Church

St. Michael Church is a welcoming and inclusive community located in the heart of our city. Our parishioners come from diverse backgrounds, but we are united by our shared love for God and our desire to grow in our faith. As a community, we strive to live out the Gospel values and support one another on our spiritual journeys.

The RCIA Process

The RCIA process is divided into several stages which allow participants to gradually deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith:

Inquiry

The Inquiry stage is a period of exploration and asking questions. It is a time for individuals to learn more about Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices. During this stage, meetings are held to provide information and address any concerns or curiosities.

Catechumenate

Once individuals decide to move forward, they enter the Catechumenate stage. In this stage, participants receive formal instruction in Catholic doctrine and engage in prayer and reflection. It is a time of growth and learning, where individuals come to understand the faith more deeply.

Purification and Enlightenment

The Purification and Enlightenment stage takes place during the season of Lent. It is a time of intense spiritual preparation and reflection for those who will be received into the Catholic Church. Participants undergo a period of purification and receive the scrutinies, special prayers and blessings.

Sacraments of Initiation

The Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism (if necessary), Confirmation, and Eucharist – are received during the Easter Vigil, the most important liturgical celebration of the year. These sacraments mark the culmination of the RCIA process, as individuals are fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

Mystagogia

After receiving the sacraments, the Mystagogia stage begins. It is a time for ongoing formation and deeper reflection on the mysteries of the Catholic faith. Participants delve into the rich traditions and practices of the Church, growing in their relationship with God and the community.
